Dr. Julius Oni is an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon and educator at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Starting as an Assistant Professor in 2016, he quickly rose to Chair of the Orthopaedic Surgery Diversity Council in 2019, and in 2020, he became the Director of Global Orthopaedics at Johns Hopkins. His leadership extended to guiding the Adult Reconstructive (Hip and Knee) Fellowship program as its Director in 2022. In 2024, Dr. Oni was promoted to Associate Professor, recognizing his significant contributions to education, diversity, and global health.
Alongside his academic roles, Dr. Oni has served as an Attending Physician at Johns Hopkins Hospital since 2016, where he continues to provide outstanding patient care while shaping the future of orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Julius Oni's educational journey is a testament to his dedication to excellence and continuous learning. He began his academic career with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. His passion for research led him to prestigious research fellowships at the University of Iowa's Department of Biochemistry and the NIH/National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD, both in 2002.
Pursuing his medical degree, Dr. Oni attended Howard University College of Medicine, where he earned his M.D. with the distinction of being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then completed a rigorous residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the NYU-Hospital for Joint Diseases, further honing his skills in a highly competitive environment.
Dr. Oni's commitment to advanced specialization took him to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he completed an Adult Reconstructive Fellowship. Dr. Julius Oni's diverse professional journey reflects his dedication to orthopaedic surgery and education. He began as a Staff Physician with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and Bayside High School Football in New York from 2008 to 2010, providing specialized care to high-performance athletes. Following this, he served as a Clinical Instructor at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, honing his teaching skills.
From 2013 to 2016, Dr. Oni was an Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, where he also held the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University. In 2016, he joined Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital as an Orthopaedic Surgeon and took on the role of Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, positions he continues to hold today, contributing significantly to both patient care and the academic community.
